How Hopstr makes money

Most links from Hopstr to a retailer are affiliate links. If you buy something after following one, the retailer pays us a small commission.
Not every link earns us a commission. Where we have no agreement with a retailer, we link to them anyway — because the garment belongs in your feed — and we are paid nothing if you buy it. You can always tell which is which: it says so under the button, before you leave.
You never pay more because of it.The price is the retailer's normal price; where there is a commission it comes out of their margin, not your total.
What this does not change
It does not decide what you see. The feed is ranked on what you swipe — not on which retailer pays the most, not on commission rate, and not on whether we are paid for a link at all. A retailer who pays us nothing is ranked exactly like one who pays us well. We would rather show you something you love from a low-paying retailer than something you ignore from a high-paying one, because an app you stop opening earns nothing at all.
Retailers do not pay for placement, and nobody can buy a position in your feed.
How it works technically
Tapping a retailer link sends you through a redirect that records the click and then forwards you to the retailer. On an affiliate link it carries a tag identifying the visit as coming from Hopstr; on a link we are not paid for there is no tag, and you simply arrive at the retailer's page. Either way we record which link was followed and when. We do not learn what you went on to buy, beyond whether a purchase was attributed to us.
Who we work with
Where there is a commercial relationship it runs through an affiliate network, which handles the agreement and the tracking. We work with TradeTracker and Awin; which one applies depends on the retailer, and some retailers we link to are on neither because there is no agreement to run.
Every outbound link is marked rel="sponsored", including the ones we are not paid for. Marking an unpaid link costs nothing; leaving a paid one unmarked would be the failure worth avoiding. The retailer is always named on the button before you leave.
